With an eye on his maiden medal in Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra will compete at the Stockholm Diamond League on Thursday (June 30). The event is scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden. The Olympic gold-medallist has been in form since making his return to competition earlier this month.
Neeraj won a silver medal in his first event after his comeback and finished at the 2nd spot at the Paavo Nurmi Games. The 24-year-old shattered his past record and covered a distance of 89.30m with his throw. But his throw wasn't enough for him to win the gold medal.
Just 4 days later, Neeraj added another medal to his tally and won the elusive gold at the Kuortane Games. He came up with a throw of 86.69m right in his first attempt and finished at the top. During his 3rd attempt, he slipped on the runway and did not attempt a throw after that.
After a small break, he will once again hit the field and will aim for his maiden medal at the event. Star javelin thrower, Johannes Vetter, will also be part of the event. Vetter, who managed a throw of 82.52m in the finals at Tokyo Olympics, has only participated in one event since then. He didn't win a medal at Tokyo Olympics.
Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely, who won silver and bronze medals at Tokyo Olympics respectively, will also be part of the Diamond League. Vadlejch had come up with a throw of 86.67m while Vesely covered a distance of 85.44m at the global event last year.
Great Britain’s Reece Prescod goes up against the Italian, who is coming back from an injury-hit 2022, in the men’s 100m. While Team GB queen Dina Asher-Smith is also in action in the women’s 200m with a fascinating head-to-head against Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji.
Look out for a host of Olympic champions too, including Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the 100m hurdles, pole vault superstar Mondo Duplantis, and India’s javelin phenomenon Neeraj Chopra.esrt rserty dfgsdr
